I went to see this documentary at last year's International Film Festival. With very few documentaries being made on the subject of graphic design, it was a rare chance to 'meet' some of the key figures in European and American type design at the same time a fascinating journey through modernist design history.
Among the interviews highlights were that with delightfully outspoken and energetic German designer, Erik Spiekermann. This design legend is responsible for numerous fonts including the popular Meta and Officina families. I've since discovered his fantastic typography blog.
It was also a great opportunity to hear radical surfie designer, David Carson, the guy responsible for all that loose, expressive and usually illegible type of the early 1990's.
